Dr. Pontifex is a world renown researcher in the area of Health Neuroscience where his work investigates the effects of lifestyle choices and health behaviors on brain health and effective cognition using behavioral, neuroelectric, and other neuroimaging techniques. A key focus of this work is on the application of positive health behaviors as a means for improving cognitive health, academic performance, and effective functioning in typically developing populations as well as within individuals suffering from cognitive and attentional disorders. Drawing heavily from the domains of kinesiology, cognitive psychology, and neuroscience, Dr. Pontifex's research is highly influential with citation metrics placing him amongst the top 1% of scholars in Cognitive Sciences and Sport Sciences. As primary/co-primary principal investigator he has secured over $2 million in external funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, GoogleX, and Nike.

Laboratory Alumni

Our alumni have come to us from a wide range of disciplines — kinesiology, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, human biology, physiology, nursing, and even packaging! Whether it be running maximal exercise tests, setting participants up for neuroelectric assessments, running data analyses, or writing manuscripts; their contributions have been immense. We are incredibly greatful for all of their contributions to the laboratory.

Focus of research at the intersection of kinesiology, cognitive psychology, and neuroscience.
